Our Story

Katama Candle Company was born out of a deep desire to create something with my hands that brings joy, not only to me but to others as well. After years of balancing the things I love—reading books, birdwatching, sunset walks on South Beach with my dog, spending time with friends, swimming in the ocean, and exploring Land Bank and Sheriffs Meadow properties—with a demanding 9-5 job in marketing, I decided it was time for a change. I walked away from corporate America to pursue freelance marketing work on Martha's Vineyard, allowing myself more time for the activities that bring me happiness.

Sadly, two weeks later my mother passed away unexpectedly. Stricken with grief and a drive to use my hands and create, I turned to a long-time love of mine: candles. I spent several months researching the candle-making process, hand-pouring candles in the kitchen of my home in Katama, conducting burn tests, and falling in love with the entire process. I found the entire candlemaking process to be quite therapeutic. As a resident of Martha's Vineyard, I felt inspired to create scents that capture my favorite places and memories of the island. And thus, Katama Candle Company was born.

 

At Katama Candle Company, the mission is simple: sparking joy through island-inspired scents. I hold steadfast to values that are important to me, including sustainability, craftsmanship, and being handmade with love. I use 100% natural soy wax, and each candle batch is tested to ensure quality.

From concept to final product, my heart is in every step. I meticulously mix fragrances to develop custom scents, hand-pour the candles at my home in Katama, and cure them for over two weeks to guarantee a strong scent throw when burning. I took great care in selecting vessels and lids to create beautiful candles that seamlessly fit into any home. Each label is hand-applied with precision and care.

The scents of Katama Candle Company are inspired by my own experiences on Martha's Vineyard. Each fragrance is crafted to capture the nostalgia of those experiences, bringing the essence of the island into your home. Whether it’s the serene Menemsha Sunset, the refreshing Katama Breeze, or the comforting aroma of Hazelnut Coffee, each candle is a testament to the beauty and tranquility of Martha's Vineyard.
